A little about me
My name is Stephanie Ayala and I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist practicing in Maryland. While I specialize in eating disorders including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and binge eating disorder, I also love working with clients who want to focus on their diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure or other nutrition-related concerns. Although most clients prefer to meet with me on an individual basis, I also enjoy working with couples and families.
Since everyone’s nutritional journey is unique, my goal when working with clients is to look at the individual’s needs and to help them make manageable, sustainable changes that get them to their goals while utilizing principles of intuitive eating and mindful eating. I am a non-diet dietitian and practice from a Health At Every Size stance.
Before I decided to become a dietitian, I enjoyed four wonderful years at the University of Virginia attaining a degree in Political Science. Like many people out there, I had my own struggles with nutrition from the limited education I received in school growing up. However, the more and more I explored this topic, the more curious (and confused) I became. I ended up pursing a Bachelor’s degree in nutrition science from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
After I completed my clinical Dietetic Internship at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, I moved to the DC metropolitan area. I fell in love with Maryland and have settled here with my family. When I’m not seeing clients or spending time with my family, I enjoy woodworking in my garage.
Practice Update
Since the pandemic, I have been seeing most of my clients virtually using a secure platform called SimplePractice. In the past year, I have also begun seeing clients in-person in two offices located here in Maryland. One office is located in the lovely downtown Frederick with TherapyHive Frederick. The other office is conveniently located off of Georgia Ave in Olney, MD with the Empowering You, LLC practice. Give me a call and we can find a time and place that works best for your schedule.
