Why It Feels That Way (and What You’re Missing)
If you’ve ever thought,
“Intuitive eating just isn’t for me…”
You’re not alone.
And honestly?
It makes sense that you’d feel that way.
Because most of the time, intuitive eating is explained like this:
“Just eat what you want when you want.”
“Eat when you’re hungry, stop when you’re full.”
And if you’re struggling with food — binge eating, constant cravings, or feeling out of control — those instructions can feel anything but simple.
They can feel overwhelming.
Even impossible.
Why Intuitive Eating Feels So Hard
If eating feels chaotic right now, being told to “just trust your body” can feel like being asked to jump without a safety net.
Because what does that actually look like when:
- You don’t trust your hunger cues?
- Fullness feels confusing or unreliable?
- Certain foods feel impossible to stop eating?
- You’ve spent years following food rules?
Of course it doesn’t feel doable.
You’re not starting from a place of trust —
you’re starting from a place of confusion, fear, and learned patterns.
The Missing Piece: It’s a Process
What often gets left out of the conversation is this: You don’t start intuitive eating overnight.
You don’t wake up one day suddenly able to:
- Eat exactly when you’re hungry
- Stop perfectly at fullness
- Feel neutral around all foods
That’s not the starting point. That’s the result of the work.
In the beginning, it can look like:
- Eating past fullness sometimes
- Feeling unsure what you want
- Questioning your choices
- Going back and forth between “freedom” and “control”
And none of that means it’s not working. It means you’re learning.
Learning how to:
- Listen to your body again
- Feel safe around foods that used to feel chaotic
- Respond to hunger and fullness without rules
Why It Takes Time
(and Why That’s Okay)
For many of my clients, this process takes months — not days.
Because you’re not just changing what you eat.
You’re changing your relationship with food.
You’re unlearning years of:
- Restriction
- Food rules
- Guilt and shame
And rebuilding something new: Trust, Safety and Consistency
That doesn’t happen instantly.
What Happens When It Starts to Click
Over time, something shifts.
Food feels quieter.
Decisions feel less stressful.
You stop overthinking every bite.
And eating starts to feel… simple.
Not because you’re following rules —
but because you trust yourself.
If You Feel Like It Won’t Work for You…
It’s not that intuitive eating doesn’t work for you.
It’s that you haven’t been supported through the process yet.
You don’t have to figure this out alone.
And you don’t have to get it perfect to make progress.
The goal isn’t perfection.
It’s moving toward food feeling calmer, safer, and more predictable over time.
If you’re ready for support learning how to trust your body and feel calm around food again, that’s exactly what I help my clients do in 1:1 coaching. I offer both individual sessions as well as a 6-week nutrition package where we will cover all the topics you need to get you to a more peaceful relationship with food.
You don’t have to wait until you feel “ready.”
You can start where you are.
